Stop the press: Why we no longer sell newspapers

Regular customers will know that we no longer sell newspapers, something we really regret.
We tried different pricing models with our supplier but to no avail.
Due to delivery charges and wastage, we could only ever make a loss on them and the full-year deficit was nearly £2k – which we felt was too heavy a burden to bear, particularly for a community enterprise such as ours.
Obviously we had to take into account other products bought by newspaper purchasers, but these only amounted to £2.34 on average (with 25% of these clients buying nothing else).
So, yes, we no longer benefit from the monthly turnover of £500 to £600 provided by our newspaper-buying customers, but our profit has actually gone up as a result.
We do understand this has been frustrating for these customers but hope that this explanation goes some way to making things clearer.
We can only hope those who purchased papers will still drop by to purchase some of our other wonderful products! x
